How to make a Hindi voiceover for YouTube videos with AI
By the TTS Maker team8 min read
हिन्दी में पढ़ेंYou have a script, but no quiet room, no decent microphone, or simply no wish to hear your own voice on playback. A Hindi AI voice can carry an explainer, a news roundup or a tutorial perfectly well, if the script is written for it. This guide covers the part most tutorials skip: how to write and prepare the text so the voice sounds like a narrator and not like a machine reading a form.
What you need
- A script in Hindi, typed in Devanagari (more on why below).
- A browser. The converter on this site works on a phone too.
- About five minutes for a three-minute video.
Without logging in you can convert 500 characters at a time, up to 2,000 a day, which is enough to test a voice. With a free account (you log in with Telegram) the limit is 20,000 characters per conversion, and the Microsoft Hindi voices stay free for up to 200,000 characters a day. That is roughly three and a half hours of narration.
Step 1: write the script for the ear
This is where most of the quality comes from. An AI voice reads exactly what you type, so anything that is awkward on the page will be awkward in the audio.
- Type Hindi in Devanagari. Roman Hindi such as “aaj hum baat karenge” usually gets read like English words, with the wrong stress. “आज हम बात करेंगे” is read correctly.
- Keep sentences short. One idea per sentence. If you would run out of breath saying it, split it.
- Use punctuation as your pause control. A comma gives a short pause, a full stop or पूर्ण विराम (।) a longer one. A question mark changes the tone of the sentence.
- Write numbers the way you want them spoken. “2026” can come out as a year or as a plain number. “दो हज़ार छब्बीस” leaves no doubt.
- Leave common English words in English. Words like video, subscribe or screen time are usually pronounced fine by the Hindi voices, and sound more natural than a forced Hindi spelling.
- Read it aloud once before converting. If you stumble somewhere, the listener will too.

The sample script is already in the box. Press Convert to speech, then change a sentence and listen to the difference.
Step 2: pick the voice
Choose the voice for the kind of video, not for how impressive it sounds in a ten-word preview. Listen to it reading thirty seconds of your own script.
| Voice | Good for | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Madhur (male) | Try it first for explainers, news, finance and tech. | Free |
| Swara (female) | Try it first for tutorials, education and lifestyle. | Free |
| ElevenLabs and Cappy voices | Stories, documentaries and channels that want a voice of their own. Over a hundred Hindi voices to choose from. | 1 credit per character |
| Gemini AI voices | Reads where the tone matters. You can describe the style in words, for example “calm news anchor”. | 2 credits per character |
Every new account gets 5,000 credits to try the premium voices. The pricing page shows what each plan includes.
Step 3: set the speed and pitch
The Microsoft voices have a speed control from −50% to +100% and a pitch control. Small changes go a long way:
- Explainers and tutorials: leave speed at 0%, or go up to +10% if the script is dense.
- Stories and documentaries: try −5% to −10%. Slower sounds more deliberate.
- News and listicles: +10% to +15% keeps the energy up.
These are starting points, not rules. Change one setting at a time and listen, because speed and pitch together can quickly start to sound artificial.
Step 4: convert in sections, not as one long file
It is tempting to paste the whole script and download one MP3. Convert it section by section instead: intro, each main point, outro.
- If one word is mispronounced, you redo a twenty-second clip and not the whole narration.
- Sections are easier to line up with your visuals in the editor.
- You can slow down or speed up a single section without touching the rest.
Name the files as you download them (01-intro, 02-point-one). When you are logged in, everything you generate also stays in History for 30 days, so a lost file is not a lost take.
Step 5: put it in your video editor
- Drop the voice clips on the timeline first, then cut the visuals to the voice. Doing it the other way round means stretching the audio, which never sounds right.
- Add background music well below the voice. If you have to concentrate to follow the words, the music is too loud.
- Add captions. Many people watch with the sound off, and captions also cover the odd word the voice gets wrong.
Fixing words the voice gets wrong
Every voice has words it stumbles on: names, abbreviations, units, brand names. The fix is almost always to spell the word the way it should sound.
| If this sounds wrong | Write this instead |
|---|---|
| AI | ए आई |
| 2026 | दो हज़ार छब्बीस |
| ₹299 | दो सौ निन्यानवे रुपये |
| Dr. Sharma | डॉक्टर शर्मा |
| 5 km | पाँच किलोमीटर |
| 10% | दस प्रतिशत |
For a name the voice keeps getting wrong, try splitting it with a hyphen or changing a vowel until it sounds right. Nobody sees the text, so the spelling only has to work for the ear.
Will YouTube monetise a video with an AI voice?
It is a fair question to ask before building a channel on an AI voice, so here is what YouTube's own pages say. We are not YouTube and cannot promise how a channel will be reviewed, so read the sources yourself.
- YouTube's channel monetisation policies do not ban AI voices. They rule out inauthentic content: videos that are repetitive or mass-produced, including “AI-generated content made with generic or unoriginal templates”.
- The same page rules out reused content, such as videos that only read out “materials you did not originally create, like text from websites or news feeds”.
- In other words, the voice is not what gets a channel rejected. A copied script read over stock images is, whoever reads it.
What that means in practice: write your own script, add something of your own (research, opinion, examples, humour), and make each video different from the last. A channel that does that is in the same position with an AI voice as with a human one.
Do you have to label the video as AI?
YouTube's disclosure rule is about realistic content that could mislead: making a real person appear to say or do something they did not, altering footage of a real event, or generating a realistic scene that never happened. A stock narrator voice reading your own script is not on that list. Cloning a real person's voice is, and you should not do that without their permission in any case.
When a real voice is still better
We build a text to speech tool, and we would still tell you not to use it everywhere. Personal vlogs, comedy that depends on timing, and emotional storytelling are better in your own voice, imperfect microphone and all. AI narration suits videos where the information is the point: explainers, tutorials, news, how-tos and lists.
If your channel is the second kind, open the Hindi text to speech page and try your first section. For whole books and long documents, the audiobook guide covers a faster route.
